For the second consecutive year, students from the Faculty of Economics – Skopje visited Brussels as part of the Erasmus+ Jean Monnet Chair project “Strengthening the Knowledge of the EU Internal Market – Widening the Perspectives of Candidate Countries.” The four students were accompanied by Prof. Dr. Elena Makrevska Disoska, Head of the Jean Monnet Chair project. The study visit included:
- A meeting at the Mission of the Republic of North Macedonia to the EU with H.E. Ambassador Zulfi Ismaili and Ms. Aleksandra Vukovic, Counsellor and Coordinator for EU Sectoral Policies. The students learned about the Mission’s work and North Macedonia’s engagement with the EU.
- Discussion with Mr. Frederick Swinnen, Political Desk Officer for North Macedonia at the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Enlargement and the Eastern Neighbourhood (DG ENEST) that offered insight into North Macedonia’s EU accession process.
- A visit to the CEFTA Secretariat, where students explored CEFTA’s achievements over the past 20 years and the links between the Common Regional Market and the EU Single Market. Discussions covered trade in goods and services, trade facilitation, horizontal measures, and digitalisation and paperless trade through CEFTA SEED+.
- Visits to European institutions, including the Council of the European Union, Parlamentarium, the European Parliament’s Hemicycle and the House of European History. These visits deepened students’ understanding of the EU’s history, institutions and decision-making processes.
The study visit connected classroom learning with discussions with professionals working on European and regional integration. We thank the Mission of the Republic of North Macedonia to the EU and the CEFTA Secretariat for their warm welcome and for sharing their expertise with our students!
