As part of the Fifty-third Regional Course on Key Issues on the International Economic Agenda, organized by UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD), Prof. Katerina Shapkova Kocevska, Faculty of Law, Ss.Cyril and Methodius University, delivered a lecture during Module I – Interrelated Development, Transition, Development Policies, and the Role of International Trade and Finance in a Globalized World: Implications for Economies of Eastern Europe. Within this module, she presented Session 11: North Macedonia’s Experience in Economic Development.
The lecture examined North Macedonia’s experience in economic development, focusing on structural transformation, productive diversification, and the country’s integration into the global economy. It discussed the main challenges associated with economic transition, the role of government policies and reforms in fostering sustainable growth and competitiveness, and the economy’s response to various external and economic shocks. Particular attention was given to the importance of international trade and finance in supporting long-term development and strengthening economic resilience in transition economies.
The regional course was hosted by the Faculty of Economics, Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje, with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of North Macedonia, and took place online from 6–10 July 2026 and in person from 13–17 July 2026. The programme brought together participants from Eastern European economies to deepen their understanding of key issues on the international economic agenda, including trade, development, finance, and economic policymaking.
Members of the Jean Monnet Chair actively contributed to the organization of the UNCTAD course, coordinating the participation and engagement of national experts in the programme.
