Organized by the Regional Centre of the World Customs Organization and the Jean Monnet Chair at the Faculty of Economics – Skopje, this training event was dedicated to strengthening knowledge and understanding of customs modernization, trade facilitation, and European integration processes. The training focused on the implementation of the new National Single Window System of the Republic of North Macedonia and its implications for businesses, public institutions, and international trade procedures. Participants gained insights into the objectives, operational framework, expected benefits, and implementation challenges of the system as an important instrument for customs modernization, digitalization of trade procedures, and alignment with international and European standards.
Particular attention was given to the importance of the National Single Window System in improving the business environment and accelerating integration into the European Union internal market. The implementation of the system is expected to contribute to better business conditions through greater efficiency, simplification of procedures, and enhanced institutional coordination.
It was emphasized that the successful implementation of the system requires active involvement at the highest level of all 15 institutions participating in the process of issuing permits, licenses, and certificates. The broader objective is to provide companies with improved services through full digitalization and the removal of bureaucratic procedures, while also reducing costs and shortening the time required to complete export and import procedures. The training also highlighted the role of digital transformation in improving transparency, efficiency, and cooperation among institutions involved in cross-border trade, contributing to broader trade facilitation reforms and supporting the country’s European integration process.
