On 18 September 2025, Prof. Ljuben Kocev, PhD, member of the Jean Monnet Chair, actively contributed to the International Summer School “AI in Action – Students and Companies Co-creating the Future” by delivering a lecture on “Ethical and Legal Aspects of Artificial Intelligence in the EU.” The summer school took place at the Faculty of Economics – Skopje from 15 to 19 September 2025.
In his lecture, Prof. Kocev addressed key issues related to the ethical use of AI, with a particular focus on transparency, accountability, data protection, and the safeguarding of fundamental rights. He also outlined the evolving EU legal framework on artificial intelligence and its implications for businesses, policymakers, and society as a whole. His presentation encouraged participants to critically reflect on how ethical standards and legal rules can foster innovation while preventing the misuse of AI technologies.
The lecture concluded with an interactive discussion involving students and company representatives, highlighting the importance of multi-stakeholder cooperation in shaping a responsible digital future for Europe. The summer school gathered around 50 participants from across Europe, including students from Croatia, Poland, Romania, Bulgaria, and Serbia.
